this is what has prompted my hiatus of the last couple of years...
lots of adult-ing the last 5 or so years has thrown me for a loop and went into a hiatus of backpacking
and other things....

i've used the REI version of the chair zero---basically same thing but less expensive...
and while it does sink a little bit, there are ways around it.......picking a firmer spot of ground......
i can attest to the Smoky's and some parts around there-----but it's fairly easy..
the trail is so beat down that there's pretty much an obvious groove to follow...
and keep eyes on blazes...

all of my solo trips, i always take a magazine or two, along with a book.....
just sit around reading all night while tending the fire.....
but, i also do a ton of reading at home....

what i've noticed with a bunch of my younger friends----10, 15, 20 years younger than me-----is their
attention span is very short.....

the rangers will occasionally make rounds and check stuff around there, but
if you want more eyes on your vehicle, standing bear or some other...
that's how i see it as well....
while ive never had giardia----i've had enough other GI problems that it only makes sense to filter...
especially when my main areas of hiking are the areas...

suit your needs....
