K3, hope to see you on Springer. I changed my start date from the 5th to the 9th.
I thought my pack weight was 31 Lbs including a professional camera body and accessories and 5 days food. Then I realized that I had forgotten to pack two of the most essential items-my hammock and...
I brainstormed with my hiking buddies and mine just fits. I have been section hiking between art shows and traveling all over the country for a few years now. My husband wants to give me a...
Thanks, Turtle Feet, it is hard to imagine here in warm florida how different it will feel like later this week...think I'm ready.
yikes, I start on the 9th. It is going to be a cold, wet, slow, windy start.
I'm flying up on the 8th and starting on the 9th.
I'll second that. I moved my start date to next Wednesday because I still need to finish my taxes. I am psyched about getting back on the trail, but the preparation has been driving me crazy...6...
mine is at www.trailjournals.com, look up Art Gypsy.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't done it. I have hiked it twice and have some beautiful pics posted on trail journals. I hiked it in the snow in Dec. Since it will be raining this...
I did 16.5 miles my first day out 2 years ago and ended up losing 3 toenails. I also had to slow down the next day due to severe weather. Do what feels right for your body, but bring enough food...
Having used all 3, I'll stick with the A.T. Guide. The elevation profiles don't seem quite accurate, but the town info for maildrops and planning accomodations is invaluable.
I would leave it at home. I wore mine hiking the high peaks in the Adirondacks and ended up loosening the diamond while scrambling. I didn't realize until it was too late and the diamond fell out. ...
I'll turn 38 about a week before my start date of March 5th.
I'm gonna have to try the peestyle. It will sure beat squatting in the snow this winter.
I returned south a few weeks ago from section hiking and I miss the trail immensely. I will be editing pictures for the rest of the year and preparing for next year's thru so the trail is always on...
I say don't put all your eggs in one basket. As a pro, I have been known to fill an 8 gig card or two a week when actively shooting. I plan on taking several of these on the trail next year. I...
I am a photographer preparing for my 2011 NOBO thru hike and am researching solar power for my camera batteries and cellphone. Any advice would be appreciated. I see that REI has some different...
I use TP and add a few wet ones to each mail drop to freshen up. Also use panty liners to stay fresh longer. Anything else and I will end up with a sore bottom.
My daughter is 14. I doubt that she will ever set foot on the trail with me again but if a miracle happens, I would be sure to put her in a tent. She is more accustomed to tent camping.
I tried getting my friends and family on the trail and it didn't work out so great...especially when my daughter found out about the shelter mice. I'm heading out NOBO early March.
I'll probably start the first weekend in March. I thought that was the 5th or 6th.
Thanks for the pic,
I was there right before trail days and got some really nice pony pictures with my sister. Some of them are posted under my pictures on trail journals. We saw 16 including 3...
I am continueing my weekday section hiking in preparation for next year's thru. Is there anyone available to hike during the week?
I'll be leaving early to mid march, weather depending. I am sure that my husband wants it over with so that he won't have to keep hearing about it on a daily basis. We went to Baxter State Park...
