The trail continues thru roads and neighborhoods until mile 55.9 where the road walk ends. There is a shelter at mile 51.3 which will be your only camping option in that section. Best of luck!

Wolf Laurel is just above Tesnatee Gap so I don't think the OP is asking someone to take her child without her.
I have the 2. I've already used the SOS for a hiker that had fallen and blown out his knee Works really well in regular use and even better seeing it actually rescue someone.
I use it for the footprint for my LightheartGear SoLong 6. Wash it in a machine first and it's soft as butter and quiet.
I've had nights in the 30s and 40s in June in the Smokies...one time in July.
A puffy is never overkill, I would say it's mandatory. You'll be OK, maybe, if you sleep warm but the Smokies and high elevations will still have cold nights. I have a pile of sleeping bags but none...
Really love this area...especially Kirkland Creek and the Upper Bald wilderness. Thanks for the report!
I mostly carry one now I the Southeast. I do feel like my big fat pack gets smug looks from the ultralight crowd even when my base weight is in the teens. Hard to pack that big ol can in an...
If anyone knows of someone that lost a high school graduation ring on the Art Loeb Trail in NC, let me know. I found a ladies ring recently and want it to go home. Dunwoody High School.
Can y'all enlighten me on how to find the spring at Naked Ground? We camped in the gap but didn't wander down the hill on either side to look for water.
I don't mind paying for Parks. I keep an America the Beautiful pass. What I mind is the extra cost and effort required of backpackers and hikers vs others. For example, in GSMNP, horse folks pay zero...
A sustainable piece of plastic....hmmm.
Best of luck fighting it. The park system will do what it wants despite comments as evidenced in other parks.
Took advantage of the cool temps Saturday night from the Cherohala out to the Hangover, camped at Naked Ground. Temps were great but the briars have choked the trail to where it's nearly impassable...
Always love your trip reports. You've taught me a lot about this area, and it's my new favorite hiking ground.
I empty the pad while I'm laying on it just to make that part easy. I've usually changed clothes and gotten ready to bail out of the tent at that point though.
Great report, glad you survived the storm!
The brook trout hit pretty good at the falls in Brookshire creek. That at Kirkland had plenty of little holes to fish. I just watched!
I have only used it in shelters when I was alone.
Thanks for the report. Assume these trails were in reasonable shape or did you have to spend time with the loppers and pruners?
I love UCO lantern in a shelter, especially when I am alone. also nice on a tree limb at camp, just for effect. I don't use it in a tent though...I'm too worried about my precious Silnylon.
I bought a new Solong last year from. Lightheart and I love this tent. It's incredibly well made and has a huge interior. I bring my pack and all my gear inside with room left over while using a...
I wear mine at camp and at breaks so haven't worn it under a pack.
I also have an App Gear Co hoody and recently bought one of the long sleeve tees from them. the t-shirt is 80/20 merino / tencel and I love it.
