The rock outcropping you see NOBO from Whistling Gap is High Rocks and is much bigger than a simple boulder.
The rock in question is trail south of Whistling Gap between Little Bald and Whistling...
A small zip lock bag. It's small, light, and easy to mold to fit into tiny places. I've used one for years.
I did Standing Bear to Hot Springs a couple of weeks ago as part of a larger trip starting at Fontana Dam. Things were definitely dry and flows greatly reduced and we have not had much rain since...
I have the Plexamid, and while I hate the struts, it is still a high quality tent ... just as nice as my old Duplex. I just take the struts out and don't use them. The peak is a bit sloppy...
Sigh ... as if I don't have enough distractions in my life :-)
Good luck, Kristian.

Or even closer to Ecusta Brewing ... depending upon your preferences :)
I hiked the AT through there the day before she disappeared and the sign was there.
I had backcountry permits for AT through the Smokies last week. I received an email with details of her disappearance and asking if any backcountry permit holders had seen her and if so asked them...
Thanks for the info Malto and Dogwood.
What type of modifications ?
Oh, and there is another camping spot maybe a mile north out of NOC but it was sloped from what I remember and I decided not to stay there and continue on which is how I found the spot I mentioned...
There is a spring at about mile 139 which has camping near it that I've stayed at before. It is maybe a half mile before the Wade Sutton Memorial and the Grassy Gap Trail when heading north out of...
I would be suspect of "bottled" water in some locations. When I was in Nepal we were warned that in some villages recycled water bottles were refilled with local tap water and re-sealed to look like...
They are a bit tricky to re-insert. I took a photo of how they are originally configured before removal.
I've got about 1000 miles on my Duplex and I've never used a ground sheet. I don't believe that one is needed especially if you spend a minute or two to remove sticks/rocks before setup. As...
The current forecast track is for landfall around south-eastern NC coast and then curving up through central NC and central/southwest VA. Landfall is projected late Thursday or early Friday with...
I have used my Duplex for over 3 years and the Duplex is a very open tent and I've only had minor condensation on the inside a few times. When it has happened, it tends to run down the inside and...
Gooch Gap to Springer is 17 miles plus 1 mile to backtrack to parking at FS42 from Springer terminus.
I'd recommend Gooch Gap to Justus Creek Friday afternoon (mile-marker 14.3) which is 3.7...
Thanks for all your detailed answers. I appreciate it.
My final question is what is next for you? FKT attempts or competitions on your calendar ?
Karel,
I'm curious about your logistics. How many nights did you camp on the trail in a tent or shelter; how many nights camped at or near road crossings; and how many nights in a hostel, hotel,...
Karel, Welcome to WhiteBlaze.
I am blown away by your effort. Congratulations on stellar run.
I'm surprised that you didn't hop on a plane and run UTMB. But, you might have been a little...
Absolutely amazing. Congrats Karel !
:)
They are both remarkable achievements. IMHO, Karel's acheivement does not diminish Stringbean's effort.
