Replacement of Riga and Brassie Brook Shelters

This fall, the CT-AMC will be replacing two of its 40+ year old shelters.
These two shelters are:
Riga Shelter (NOBO mile 1507.1)
Brassie Brook Shelter (NOBO mile1507.9)

The demolition of the shelters is scheduled to begin next Wednesday, 10 August with Brassie Brook, followed by Riga on 03 September.
The reconstruction of the shelters is expected to last until the end of October. During the replacement process, the camping area at both locations will remain open for hiker usage.

It is with great sadness that I say that we lost another one of our early members of WhiteBlaze and the Appalachian Trail community. Richard “The Old Fhart” Bailey passed away last Friday after a long battle with cancer. I have a lot of good memories with him in the WhiteBlaze community, Appalachian Trail community, and the geocaching community.
I had the unforgettable experience of riding to Trail Days from Maine and back with him twice. It is an experience that I will never forget. For people that knew him, know what I am talking about. He was a very intelligent person. He knew things that most normal people would never know or care to know. That made him a great wealth of knowledge. If you needed an answer to something he probably knew it and if he did not know it, he would find out. I am at a loss for words here, he was a remarkable person and friend. Maybe a few will chime in and share a story or two that you have of The Old Fhart.

The interactive PDF of WhiteBlaze Page, A Complete Appalachian Trail Guidebook is now out.Download it now.This work in conjunction with Gaia GPS on smart phone and other devices. It’s here and ready to download. The 2022 WhiteBlaze Pages, A Complete Appalachian Trail Guidebook Basic PDF. I have added over 1,200 more GPS coordinates to the guidebook. Making it a total of over 4,500 GPS coordinates. More parking options and coordinates, more maps, and a few other things. I am currently working on the smartphone version. The smartphone version works in conjunction with Gaia GPS. It should be ready within a week if all goes well.

I am looking for some help in the Harpers Ferry, WV area
I am looking for someone in the Harpers Ferry area that can help me out.
I need some help identifying and checking out a few things in the Harpers Ferry area and on the trail in that area.
This will require a gps and may require about (1.5) miles of walking.

Attention A T Hikers. I sold the Jack Tarlin Hostel (Baltimore Jacks) and it will be permanently closed as of today (08/21/2021). I have sold all the motels in Franklin and Georgia. I do have other properties in Franklin I could use as a hostel if we decide later to open a hiker business. We may even buy a motel in Gatlinburg, TN. We are considering buying a house in Arizona or Texas to live in part time. Thank all of you for giving me the chance to serve each one of you throughout all these years and God Bless.
