April 16 - Dropped at Springer Mtn (yes, I skipped the approoach trail...) 1 mile up, pics, 1 mile down. Only went as far as Stover Creek. Not enough cell signal to call in for church :-(
April 17 - Great weather. Got water at Hawk Mtn Campsite at noon but didn't check for next water site so only got camelback full. I had to make it 7 more miles to Justus for water. Couple of college-looking kids took pity on me after 5 miles and gave me their water because they weren't going any further. I collapsed into hammock so sore I couldn't lay on my side and have my knees resting on each other.
April 18 - Much better day - feet still sore from day before but crossed several streams and took opportunity to soak my tootsies in icy water. Saw a snake at one stream - check gallery - couple people thought water moccasin?
April 19 - made it 8.5 miles to Woods Hole camped with Lefty and MaryBeth (struggling with hurting feet, maybe stress fractures?)
April 20 - Lost MaryBeth at Neels Gap. Went on with Lefty/Lucy. Camped on top of Cowrock Mtn - amazing sunrise/sunset - moon pics. Hooting owls during the day - didnt know they did that.
April 21 - Only 7 miles. Feet hurt - Storms coming so I stopped early and got set up in dry. Forgot my scriptures for Passover ... so I drank my wine and felt sorry for myself LOL
April 22 - Waited for a wane in rain to tear down so didn't start out until 9 ... moseyed through the rain until 7pm (Unicoi Gap) Couldn't get anybody on phone for shuttle so sat there feeling all pathetic but a white van came pulling up to drop a hiker off and agreen\d to give me a ride to Helen (Quality Inn) Blissful soak in tub, draped all my stuff over every surface to dry
April 23 - Free Shuttle back to Unicoi Gap. 3.5 miles up in to campsite near water...camped all alone ... kinda cool!
April 24 - 9.5 miles to Deep Gap Shelter. SOOOOO tired! at one point I thought it was raining but realized the sound was a herd (flock?gaggle?) of teeny crickets leaping out in front of me.
April 25 Dicks Creek - First food drop. Spent time figuring out how bad my time projections are skewered if Im only up to 10 miles per day ... dang
Lady at the hostel said I've made it farther than 20% of Springer starters ...I guess I'll just adjust my attitude :-)
