I'm far from alone in having had plans for hiking on the A.T. this year disrupted by Covid-19. My home state of Pennsylvania, for example, strongly urges people who travel to Covid hot-spots to quarantine for 14 days after returning. And New England states require such a quarantine for any visitor from outside the area. Thus, travels to those parts of The Trail I want to walk on will require quite a bit of quarantine.

Quick video of the hike from Long Mountain Wayside on Route 60 up over Bald Knob (not bald) to the intersection with the Old Hotel Trail to Cow Camp Gap. On the front half is 1986' elevation gain in 2.8 miles, all up, relentless. We went off trail around mile 3.3 to find some aircraft wreckage from an A-6 Intruder that went down there. AT#2 VA Chester Gap to Snickers Gap

With Rob and Steve Montgomery and Stan (my son)..before wedding!


Mile 971 6/26 From 522 hiked 10 miles uphill to Manassas Gap Shelter. The trail is fast and easy devoid of rocks and roots that can slow one’s pace.6/27 ...and then onto Sky Meadows to eat a fantastic lunch where I broke my MSR Mini Water filter on the stone patio trying to store it!
