Corned Beef on good Friday is a forgivable sin. The big guy would understand as it's rye, 1000 island, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut, corned beef and butter. My favourite sandwich ever. The whole fish thing on Fridays started in the 1600's anyway.

Been outside enjoying the FINALLY springlike day! worked on my path to the creek, and debating whether to tether a kayak nearby. It's our land, And if anyone would even see it (not likely at all), they would have a heck of a time getting to it. Crossing the creek isn't really an option. Just kinda wondering what would take up residence in it. Probably not much more than currently could, it does reside out in a shed. Any thoughts?

It looks like an equation, but it is just a representation of a number in a different format. It is useful to computers. Computers like ons and offs. Decimal is what we understand. Which is why we should drop this archaic, arrogant, obtuse, complicated, and otherwise outdated system we have in America and move on with the rest of the planet to metric. But I digress.

I am only going from Katahdin to Grafton Notch. Doing all spur trails as well and fishing and taking pictures with a heavyish camera.
I did my programming in the military. We started using machine code and then advanced to N.E.L.I.A.C. Naval Electronic Laboratory International Algal Compiler . That sounds like a fun hike. I have always wanted to hike in the New England states but never seem to make it that far north. Maybe next year. I wanted to go to college. I had no support. I chose an easy path. Been working at BIW for 33+ years. Started digging clams at 9. Did that and trapped from 13 to 18. I got my AS through Maine Maritime Academy at 50 just to prove I could do it. It was out of frustration for what could have been. I ended up with a 4.0 and 98.67 average. Now it sits on a shelf. I could have had a very different life... but...I would likely not have the wife I do and my 3 kids and 2 grandkids. We are a sum of our choices and experiences. I would not change my path.

Think hex. Binary for the same is much more impressive, which I suspect was his point. AK, are you a math teacher?
Electronics engineer/computer scientist. 1,000,000,000,000,000 was too long to type - which is why we use hex.

Man I must really be old school, I always thought 0 times anything was still 0, binary and octal didn't matter. So you are saying 0 has a value in binary or octal? Always thought 0 signified a lack of value.
It's not a multiplication symbol, it's a letter 'x'. In most modern programming languages, the '0x' notation is used to introduce a hexadecimal number.
0x0 × 0x8000 is still zero. (Note that the symbol in the middle is a multiplication symbol.)
Can you make a youtube link your signature? I am about to find out.
That was wicked funny!!!!

That sounds like a fun hike. I have always wanted to hike in the New England states but never seem to make it that far north. Maybe next year. My back surgery seems to have fixed my problem and I have this little seed growing in the back of my mind about an extended hike. My doctor told me two or three days at a time but he is not a hiker.
Glad you got your back fixed and can hike some. :)

It was the worst piece of crap I ever used. Later I did learn to program in Cobal but found out I could make more money working a steel mill than I could programming.

2 Corinthians 15:14-22 "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."

Not too much confusion, I'd at least heard of AK and Timken, back when I was working on a locomotive project for GE. If I recall right, the stuff that GE was making eventually got contracted to Atchison Casting for iron
and Denison for aluminum. It might have been that Timken was making other parts, I was working on one corner of a huge project. A whole team of the R&D guys from GE had to go out to Kansas to help teach the foundry how to make the parts - they were challenging. That was twenty or so years ago now.
My hat's off to Storm - hot metal men are a different breed!
Yes, iron. I know the difference between iron and steel - the application needed austenitic ductile iron.

OK--been away some Been lurking some
Spent Easter Sunday with kids and grands in Atlanta. Attended what I would call a "new age' service (rock band, video displays, very few in coats and ties, very diverse congregation) Now I say this because the church services I have had most of my life have been very different. I grew up in the Episcopal church in a much smaller city. I am used to Very formal, structured, beautiful ceremonious services. I've always called the Episcopal service as "Catholic Lite" --all the ceremony, with half the guilt--lol We attended services today at the request of the kids that live in Atlanta. It was a bit of culture shock to me for a while!
What I found was a group of devoted, enthusiastic Christians expressing their faith in a way that was uplifting, contagious, and heart felt.
I realized that, while different that what I was used to (and grown to be comfortable with), there are many different paths to the same destination.
Guess I'm never too old to learn.
Happy Easter everyone

I've hiked with him, and he's capable of twice the pace they're setting. Wonder if he ever breaks loose? I think it would be hard since it's become such a community, but he'd cover a lot more ground. He could be to NOC by now, maybe even the Dam.

I've hiked with him, and he's capable of twice the pace they're setting. Wonder if he ever breaks loose? I think it would be hard since it's become such a community, but he'd cover a lot more ground. He could be to NOC by now, maybe even the Dam.
I have never met him, but from what little I know about him, I suspect there would be a community around him no matter what pace he hiked at. I am following these journals with interest. I am curious about what you suggest and a great many other things. ATM was already a sad event. It just walking and it is so much more.

Good morning. With that nice picture, you have been moved off my target list for ribbing for a while. Nah.... April fools.

Getting upset or opening cans of worms. After I open a can of worms, the worms get very upset.

The only one of the café crowd I've hiked with is 1azarus. Now there's a speed demon. The one time I was out with him, he was ready to make much bigger miles than I was physically capable of. I'm a snail normally, and the combination of snow and bronchitis made me even slower. I wound up simply getting off trail and grabbing a taxi back to my car when I decided I was too sick to hike.
(I seem to recall that he broke away from the pack on the first café outing in Connecticut, too?)
But it's too early in HB's hike to judge the miles they're making. I've been following a couple of other journals, and the snow down south is nasty. Everyone's moving slow. ChinMusic spent Monday to Thursday holed up in Gatlinburg because he couldn't get back in at Newfound Gap, and heard on the grapevine that on Saturday they were being turned away again. He's reporting a two-foot snowpack, and what thru-hiker brings snowshoes?

It worked for Martin Luther - wasn't he the one that went to a Diet of Worms?

Going back into construction mode. I filed 8 small groves in the top of my stove as recommended by someone on YouTube and lost all my efficiency. I thought I was doing great things. Looks like I was just getting lucky. I have no clue why eight 1/16" groves would matter so much. I hope I get a similar seal with next stove as I had with old one.

I gather that. That is why I am running so many tests. Things do not react as I expect. There have been a ton of surprises for me in my testing.

If you find any reputable stove build links, I am all ears. I find many that speak in the abstract, but few that actually demonstrate what they are saying is true.

Both look nice. However, I like the ones you can set the pot directly on. My Budweiser stove did very well until the latest mod. I was boiling 2 cups with 15ml in 40 degree weather. Now I can barely make it boil with 20ml.
