This started as an "accidental" section hike, beginning the year before my wife's, Gutsy's, 1996 thru hike. Over the years I kept track of miles hiked, and after about 10 years decided to complete a section hike of the AT. Retirement in 2013 gave me more time to work on that goal, and Gutsy provided great support. A highlight: summiting Mt. Katahdin with Earl Shaffer in 1998. First steps on the AT: Standing Indian Mt. loop, April 1995. Ending steps on the AT: southbound to Manchester Center, Vermont, August, 2015. |

June 5, 2020 start at Amicalola Falls, NOBO'd to Swatara Gap, PA, then flipped up to Maine and SOBO'd back close the loop at Swatara Gap November 17. Very quiet year to hike the AT but no safer place in the world to have been in 2020. |
