My newest Home-Made BackPack is 6.5" x 12" x 23.5" plus it has a 10" collar that forms a roll top to close the pack bag. The pack bag weighs 2.10oz and is made from Cuben Fiber which is the lighest material I have been able to find. The weight of the three mesh pockets at 1.28oz is part of the total pack bag weight of 2.10oz.

Ummm..It looks like a laundry bag on a wheel-less luggage cart...I will bet 30 pounds in a decent 5 pound external frame pack will feel half as light as it would in this 2.10oz "pack"...But keep experiementing as that is how some good ideas are formed! -
