Charle's Bunion is on a short side trail to the AT, about 4 miles north of Newfound Gap in the Smokeys. I was hoping to get there next week with my daughter, but we're going to start from Standing Indian instead and hike north.

I had the great fortune to reach Charlie's Bunion around lunch on an absolutely perfect day in early October. I really just wanted to sit there the rest of the afternoon, but I had apparently left my sunscreen at the prior shelter and could feel the sun starting to burn the back of my neck. Just a lovely, idyllic place, although I can envision it getting crowded on a nice weekend.
