For northbounders, immediately after crossing The Junction stream, the A.T. enters Forge Park in Boiling Springs, PA. Just to the east of the trail can be seen the ruins of the Old Carlisle Iron Works furnace. This furnace used charcoal and water from Children's lake to produce iron ore, and operated here from the 1760s until 1895. It was one of the first industries in Pennsylvania's Cumberland Valley.
