This is what the Heat Sealer looks like. I have no idea and would not trust a make shift sealer without a lot of testing. They cost anywhere from about $60 up.

It looks sorta like a funky curling iron. Maybe you could take off the clamp on one, affix a makeshift swing arm (maybe a steel pipe) and then see how that works. Or attach an angled piece of metal on the underside of the clamp on an intact curling iron. An angled piece to compensate for the arc as the clamp closes, assuming it opens wide.
