I think that this was the worst shelter on the trail. It was dark, dank, and filthy. Whoever is responsible for its care should be fired and a new maintainer appointed. -

Yes it is a terrible shelter but the situation is probably beyond the caretakers and maintainers control. I was there a week ago and there is no way I would have slept in this shelter. -

Long overdue for a remodel job. The shelters in the Smokies looked like this before they were improved over the past ten years. No reason this one can't undergo the same work. -

This shelter is in easy walking distance from 2 parking lots...........25 miles from New York city.......not an easy task to keep up with that abuse. But there are numerous opportunities to volunteer for the Ny/Nj conference if you have ANY spare weekends.
