A. T. Near Devils Racecourse/Raven Rock Shelter, Md, 06/06/09 Approximately 1.0 mile north of Raven Rock Road there is an access trail to the Devils Racecourse Shelter. The shelter is located approximately 0.3 mile from the trail and Ritchie Road is located approximately 0.6 mile from the trail. According to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, the Raven Rock Shelter is not yet open, although it is listed in the 2009 A.T. Companon, but is scheduled to be completed by the end of summer 2009. Consequently, the old Devils Racecourse is still open and available for use. The PATC, which is responsible for construction, says that the new shelter will be on the same site as the old, so distances between shelters should not be affected. SoBo 1128.8. NoBo 1049.5.
