Go help me God.... I'm actually thinking about thru-hiking the AT in 2014. I've already thru-hiked it once. I have nothing to prove. *sigh*
This is a certain sign of insanity, right?

Approach Trail - Haven't decided yet
Any additional info: I'm training this winter on Mt. Diablo and other local San Francisco Bay Area mtns and hills. We've got a bunch of prior thrus and would be thrus of the AT, PCT and CDT all knocking out some great climbs in prep for this year's hiking season on all three trails. Some come up from Santa Cruz, others from San Francisco, down from the Wine Country and even the Sierra Foothills to hike trails that get up to 42 percent grades, 6,500' vertical (total ups and downs on a 4,000' mountain) and from 10 to 20 miles. Best of all is the thru hiker camaraderie and sharing of trail stories and wisdom. There's nothing better than the thru hiker community for fascinating people. If you're in the area, give me a note and I'll let you know where and when the next hike is scheduled. If you're a long distance hiker, this is your tribe. Come on out. Shroomer

I was originally inspired to enter the field of adventure education and outdoor guiding from the awe inspiring nature of the trail. My goal of embarking on a thru hike has been smoldering for years and will finally come to fruition.
Trail Name: Cliff Diver for 2013 attempt, I'm open to a new name.
Direction: NOBO
Estimated Start Date: Mid to Late March
Approach Trail: Why the hell not?
I attempted to thru-hike this year but left around the 800 mile mark in VA around June. I hiked Katahdin in August just to see if I was capable, it was amazing and pissed me off that I didn't stay on. I am determined to complete an entire thru so this go around, less socializing and more hiking. Not that the socializing wasn't a great part of the journey, but for some like me it's too much of a distraction from my goal. Good luck to all those hiking and hope to see you out there.

I'm 22, just about to graduate from the University of Maine at Orono. Thru hiking the AT has been a life goal of mine since I just a kid, and it's finally time to make it happen! I can't wait to get away from everything for 6 months and think of nothing but survival and the trudge for a while. Planning on applying to law schools after I get back, so this will be a short window of education-less solidarity and I can't wait.

I'm 22 and fellow Mainer as well brotha. I will be graduating in the spring from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and could not think of a better way to celebrate my freedom than by hiking this trail. I did a small section hike late last summer in Maine (The 100 Mile Wilderness) and I was completely hooked by everything about the trail, especially the thru-hikers that I met along the way. It is truly a community out there just as much as it is a trek through the wilderness. I am stoked to do this. I hate having to miss trail days and the initial hiker bubble that starts around the 1st of April, but I plan to catch up somewhere down the line. Hope to see y'all out on the trail!
I know the feeling! The trail is addictive! Go for it!

Planned and bought my ticket to Maine to do the SOBO trail two years ago with a friend and ended up having to cancel. Finally getting around to it this year while I am between jobs.
The stark reality has sunk in and I'm finally able to admit to myself that I will not be Thru hiking in 2014. My retirement from my current job has been pushed back and I'm already accepted into a good program at college beginning in August. I'll get 6 weeks to section hike which I am grateful for. Best wishes and happy trails to all 2014 Thru hikers. I'll be rooting for you!

Hoping to have friends meet me along the way to Maine! Just out of college, not sure where I'm going next, but completely excited about taking the hike of a life time!
Hey, are you alone or with partner? I'm from Warner Robins, 61 but healthy, and looking to section hike for a week about April (flexible) and need to at least start with someone. Drop me a line if interested.
