Default Parking at NJ / PA line

Does anyone know where there is a safe place to leave a car at near the PA / NJ state line?

Talk to the folks at DWG information. Their lot seems fairly safe. Also the lot just up the trail from the DWG hostel works and seems to be safe. Pastor Karen could report if there have been any problems. Another possibility is the rafting company down by the interstate in DWG,PA. Don"t even think of talking to the hostel about leaving a car there. Hope this helps.

Default Delware Water Gap NRA - AT links

Delaware Water Gap NRA > Backpacking > Regs, campsites, access points & map

Appalachian Trail Conservancy > Hike the Trail > Plan a Hike > Getting to the Trail

Parking in Delaware Water Gap is not a recent thread, but it's short and provides general information about most of the alternatives.

We go thru the Delaware Water Gap on route 80 (you don't have to pay a toll to get from PA to NJ). Get off on the exit marked for the park office. You can park in the parking lot there, or at the lot on the other side of 80 where the AT starts up to Sunfish Pond. Never had a problem there with vandalism or tickets.

There are none. We can smell fear in NJ.

Ditto on NJ I-80 Rest Stop or across the highway (on the north side) at the trailhead. Both sides have been safe for my paddling, hiking and backpacking trips over the years.
.....Someday, like many others who joined WB in the early years, I may dry up and dissapear....

I left my car at DWG right where you come off the Interstate for 5 days last May with no problems. There is a large restroom facility there which is great for washing up and getting rid of your trash before heading out. Plus it is right on the trail.

The only downfall to using that parking lot is if you're coming from PA and have to go home that way, you have to pay the .75 toll... I usually prefer the AT lot in DWG, PA over the jersey side. Have left my car there for 2 weeks with no problems. Plus its an interesting walk across the I-80 bridge while it bounces as the trucks pass.

    75 cents! Oh no.

Having walked across that bridge I would have gladly paid 75 cents to avoid it.

    Default Worthington

I parked at the Worthington State Park in NJ, next to the camp ground office. It is right by the boat ramp. Take the last exit off 80 west before it crosses into PA. There is single lane road controlled by a long traffic light that ensures only cars in one direction. It is a little tricky to find but it safe. Let them know you are parking. You can do it by phone if arriving early/late. There is a blue blaze up to the AT that is between 1 and 2 miles.
