Can anyone suggest an exit point about 2 days south of Roan High Knob? I'm going to park at Mountain Harbor and have my wife pick me up down the trail, so I need a good location to put in her gps.

You can walk in another person's shoes, but only with your feet
Erwin TN comes to mind.
Uncle Johnnys is pretty convenient
About 35 miles, works for 2 days for most.
The last 9 miles SOBO from indian grave gap to Uncle Johnnys only takes a couple hrs. Its easy downhill/flat walking, as easy as anyplace on AT, so dont sell yourself short on ability to make miles here. I walked that part sobo one fall day a few yrs ago when I was in area, 9 miles in 2 hrs 45 minutes flat. I only had a daypack with me, maybe 7 lbs total, but 2L water. Drank exactly none.
come to think of it, trail is all downhill from beauty spot, so that ought to literally fly by in less than half day SOBO.

Err, Erwin is like 50 miles from 19E. That's at least 3-4 days in the summer.
Greasy Creek Friendly would be a better bet at 25 miles. Night one, Overmountain shelter. Night two Roan High Knob, then out to Greasy Creek.
The OP doesn't say when this hike might happen and that make a big difference.
Follow slogoen on Instagram.
Erwin is at least 50+ miles
Indian Grave is 42. It took me 2 full days and a half.
Agree with Greasy Creek at 26 miles being best option.
Getting lost is a way to find yourself.
Suppose a Geezer wanted to do this hike the first or second week or April, would I run smack into the 2017 NOBO Bubble?
Thanks for your help.

OP said 2 days from roan high knob, not from 19e. He already factored in 19e to roan high knob apparently In his 3-4 days. Thats the first 1-2 days.
Roan high knob to indian grave gap would be 26 ish miles. Two easy days. But only 3 more hrs or so puts you at uncle johnnys. Easy walkin. 9 ridiculous easy Slightly downhill miles.

At 350 miles up the trail, youd meet people that been on trail about a month. probably clip the leading edge Hard. . Its hard to say how bad because lots do start really early now. But a bout of bad weather could delay them. 100% chance youd see a bunch. Its more a extended smear than a bubble now, lots start in early to mid march

Thanks MW. That's what I thought. I just wasn't sure how many days it took to hike from Mile 0 to Roan High Knob.
If I hike this section, I'll be self contained and can camp where I please.

Thanks, all. I think I'll shoot for Uncle Johnny's and use Greasy Creek as my bail out.
I hiked from Roan High Knob to Mountain Harbor the second week of last April. I ran into a half dozen thru hikers. plenty of room at shelters and time alone on the trail.

Don't leave Mountain Harbor without having breakfast first!
I don't actually stay at the Inn. Although I'm site it's really nice. I just like to park there because it's cheap and I know my car is safe. Their Shuttle fees are pretty reasonable too, especially if you can split the cost with some other hikers.

they will let you camp in their parking area if you want and they are shuttling you
Whatever you do, be sure to sign up for the breakfast at Mountain Harbor! Easily one of the top 3 breakfasts on the entire AT.
